“he would have a heart attack” - road trip #5, Monterey, California
A year ago, I never thought that helping someone I knew out with a street team would bring so many great people in my life. My life has kind been a whirlwind this past year, I feel like it’s kind of starting to take off, which is great. I have friends that are oozing with talent and I rightfully support them. This show was the last time I knew I would see Snuffaluffagus, so I was kind of bummed out. I knew I would be seeing Weatherbox at the end of the month, but not with Snuffy so I was even more bummed. I drove to Monterey with my sister for this time; it was a nice drive. I like driving on 101, listening to good music; it brings back memories of the summer. Again, we hit a little bit of traffic but nothing really significant. On the way there we saw a crazy old man driver, he swerved into my lane, swerved back and hit the railing on the road and KEPT DRIVING. Right after we determined he was crazy, we passed “crazy horse road.” We got into Monterey and decided to get some food, we went to Roundtable and ate some yummy pizza. We headed back to the school and called Nicole to let her know we were there and she directed us to where we need to go. The Black Box Cabaret has the most complicated parking lot EVER. We finally figured it out and saw everyone went over and said hi and then just chilled inside while everyone set up. I sat at the merch table for the night and didn’t sell a thing. The show started about 40 minutes late, which threw everything off. The first 2 bands that played were kind of terrible. Airplane Art which was combination of everyone’s friends played, a completely instrumental set which was pretty good. I dug it. Chris played next which was great because right after his set we had to bounce, which meant I had to miss Weatherbox =[. Chris played a really good set, it was nice to see him as a full band in an actual venue. The acoustic in the room weren’t that great but it worked. Right when Chris was done playing, I had to cut out so I said bye to him and got said because I didn’t know when I would see him next. I said bye to Brian and told him I’d see him at the end of the month. After goodbyes were said, I left with my sister, hauling ass on 101 we made it home by 12:43, when TomTom said we’d be home at 1:10. Again a pretty uneventful night, but it was really good to see everyone in a real venue. I love my musically talented friends.
